The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged Nigerians who have moved to new locations to transfer their voter registration ahead of the closure of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
The commission introduced the portal after extending the nationwide CVR exercise by two weeks, moving the deadline from July 10 to July 24, 2026, to allow more eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections, PUNCH Online had earlier reported.
It was reported that the electoral agency launched an online self-service portal that enables eligible Nigerians to register for a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), transfer their voting location, update their details and replace lost or damaged voter cards.
The platform, part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, allows first-time voters to complete the entire registration process on their mobile phones, including biometric capture, without visiting an INEC office.
In a Thursday post on X, the commission advised eligible voters not to register again if they had previously registered but had since relocated.
“Have you moved to a new location? Your vote should move with you,” INEC said.
The commission, in the post shared alongside a flyer, urged affected voters to apply for a Transfer of Registration to enable them to vote at a polling unit closer to their current place of residence.
“Don’t let your old polling location decide your future. Apply for a Transfer of Registration and vote where you now live either by visiting any CVR registration centre or using online portal via: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org,” the commission said.
INEC added, “Don’t register again. Simply apply for a Transfer of Registration.”
The commission said the CVR exercise would close on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with registration centres open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including weekends.
“Every vote counts. Take a step today and be counted,” INEC said.
