Tension reportedly heightened in the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State following clashes in involving groups of residents on Wednesday.
According to reports, the unrest involved individuals said to be from Yoruba and Hausa communities, although authorities had yet to officially confirm details surrounding the incident as of the time of filing this report.
Officials of Operation Burst, the joint security outfit in Oyo State, were reportedly deployed to the area to restore normalcy and maintain law and order.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, avoid affected locations and rely on updates from relevant security agencies as efforts continue to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
There were also reports that a scavengers’ depot known locally as “Bolla” was set ablaze during the unrest.
However, the circumstances surrounding the fire and those responsible for it had not been independently verified at the time of this report.
Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
