The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has declared that its members in Kumbotso Local Government Area remain united and loyal to the party, dismissing claims that some members had defected to the National Democratic Congress.
The party described the alleged defections as a fabrication by the Kwankwasiyya movement aimed at diverting attention from what it called its “sinking ship.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the state Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Soja, said the party remained firmly rooted in Kumbotso, adding that those purported to have defected were unknown to its leadership in the area.
“The party stakeholders and loyalists in Kumbotso are satisfied with the infrastructural projects being executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including the AKK gas pipeline and the Kaduna–Kano–Maradi standard gauge railway, both of which pass through parts of the local government,” he said.
Soja added that APC members in the area also appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for attracting major investment opportunities to Kumbotso aimed at accelerating economic growth and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
He, however, urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to focus on resolving its internal challenges rather than engaging in what he described as baseless propaganda.
“The average Kano voter can no longer entrust their future to the political gimmicks and selfish interests of the Kwankwasiyya movement,” he said, adding that the NDC was created primarily to serve the narrow interests of its leaders.
The APC urged residents to disregard reports circulating on social media alleging that its members had defected to the NDC, insisting that the party remained strong, united and firmly established in Kumbotso.
The reaction followed reports on social media claiming that some APC members in Kumbotso Local Government Area had defected to the NDC.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, dismissed the APC’s position, insisting that defections from the ruling party to the NDC were ongoing across the state.
“The APC leadership in the state has refused to accept reality. The defection of APC members to the NDC in the state is a daily phenomenon,” he said.
“Pictures don’t lie. The recent defection of APC members to the NDC in Kumbotso and other local government areas is a reality because the pictures do not lie,” Mohammed added.
