Food vendors make brisk businesses at Nigerian Food Flavour festival

More than 50 food vendors who showcased their delicacies are making quick businesses at the on-going Nigerian Flavour festival in Calabar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some food vendors expressed happiness over the high level of patronage at the festival.

Mrs Doris Ekurisong, a vendor, on Friday commended the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) for organising the festival.

Ekurisong said that the festival united food vendors and that made brisk businesses because of the population it attracted.

“I’m very happy today because this festival makes me to showcase Ekpang food, an Efik food, and make fast money when compared to what I make in previous days.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the government for organising the food festival to help us to boost our businesses.

“This really helps me to showcase our native food like Ekpang, Pio-Pio throw away and portage plantain,’’ she said.

Another vendor, Paul Etim, who sells wine and fruit juices, said the festival would add value to businesses and equally add value to the nation’s economy.

According to him, it will go a long way to increase GDP in the state.

Etim called on the Cross River State government and all local governments in the state to sustain the Nigerian Flavour festival.

Mr. Emmanuel Asuquo, another vendor, urged parents to train their children on how to prepare native foods.

“I have passion for cultural expressions such as food, fashion, and music; that is why I came here to showcase Calabar native foods.

“I hope that this will help in attracting our younger generation to value our delicacies more than they value western foods,’’ Asuquo said.
