Edo begins forest guards training June 5

The Edo State Government on Thursday said that it will commence training for newly recruited forest guards on June 5.

The Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Festus Ebea, in a statement released noted that the training would take place at the Police Training School, Ogida Barracks, Benin City and the recruits are to report on or before 5:00 p.m. on the stated date.

Ebea stated that all candidates have successfully been profiled by the Department of State Services and completed medical screening at Edo Specialist Hospital.

The statement read, “The Edo State Government hereby announce that the training for newly recruited Forest Guards, will commence on Friday, June 5, 2026 for 6 weeks.

“All candidates who have successfully been profiled by the Department of State Services (DSS) and completed medical screening at Edo Specialist Hospital are by this statement required to report to the Police Training School, Ogida Barracks, Benin City on or before 5:00 p.m. on the stated date.

“Candidates are advised to come prepared with all required documentation and in compliance with the training facility’s protocols. Other training facilities will be supplied to them there after.”

He noted that further enquiries, the Office of the Commissioner for Public Safety and Security should be contacted.

The recruitment of forest guards had gained prominence after the abduction 45 teachers and students in Oyo State.

Earlier in the week, President Bola Tinubu announced that the government would recruit 1000 forest guards who will patrol the forest to alert of any act of banditry and insurgency.
