APGA aspirant joins Anambra South Senate seat race

A senatorial aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Patrick Ubajaka, has declared interest in running for the senatorial position for the Anambra South Senatorial District to fill the position left vacant by late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah at the National Assembly.

The seat, left vacant at the Red Chambers due to the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died in July, has other aspirants from the area also jostling over who will replace the late Senator after he was buried in November.

Ubajaka, while briefing journalists on his ambition in Awka on Thursday, said his desire to run for the Senate is both a divine orchestration and a well-informed decision to serve the people, having been in APGA since the inception of the party.

He disclosed that he is a kinsman of the late Senator Ubah, and according to him, only a close relative of the late Senator should be allowed to complete his remaining tenure at the Red Chambers.

He explained that he was coming up with a seven-point agenda for the Anambra South Senatorial District, which covers a landmass of 1,320 km out of the total 4,416 square kilometres of landmass of the entire Anambra State.

He said, “The senatorial district is made up of seven local government areas such as Aguata, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Orumba South. I know the terrain very well.

“Arguably, it is the zone with the largest concentration of renowned entrepreneurs, astute politicians, reputable traditional leaders, and scholars in comparison to other zones of the state. Thus, the task of representing such a zone in the Senate is not an ‘all comers job.’

“It calls for a relational personality and a team player, and that is my basic strength demonstrated over decades as a private entrepreneur as well as a former chief servant in public office.

“My agenda is quality representation through sponsorship of impactful bills and having carved a niche for myself in the private sector with certified and satisfied executions of European Union projects across the country, I will be a voice the people will be proud of in the floor of the Senate.”

He explained that the late Ubah hailed from the Otolo community in the Nnewi North Local Government Area, like himself, and by providence, he should be considered for the completion of the tenure, besides the fact that he is eminently qualified for the position.

Speaking on his programmes for the people of the district, Ubajaka said he is joining the race prepared and fully ready with a lineup of several programmes and sponsoring bills to transform the lives of the people of Anambra South Senatorial District at the Red Chambers.

He said, “For me, the desire to run for the Senate of Anambra South is both a divine orchestration and a well-informed decision to serve the people. I have been in APGA since the party’s inception.

“I am eminently qualified for this position by whatever standard, but what I am saying is that the people of Nnewi North should be allowed to complete the tenure of their brother, and if you come to Nnewi, I am the closest to him.

“I am a founding member of the state-ruling APGA, and I am contesting the by-election to fill the senatorial position left vacant by Ubah under the APGA platform. I am contesting to complete the good work he had started before he passed away. If elected, I will ensure that his hard-earned legacies are sustained.

“If you look closely at the current government in Anambra State, you would find out that all that our governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, is doing is to give life to the very ideology that makes APGA the foremost progressive party in Nigeria.

“It is this kind of politics I want to take to the Red Chambers because it resonates with my life essence. You see, I understand that in politics people advance all sorts of arguments and justifications to explain why they are most qualified for any position to aspire to.

“Mine is a bit different; what I look out for is consistency in character and willingness to live according to your chosen ideological beliefs.”

Ubajaka appealed to the APGA leadership to consider him for the party’s ticket, assuring the people that his legislative agenda would align with Governor Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a peaceful, secure, livable, and prosperous state in Nigeria.
