Again, NMA arrests fake doctor in Plateau

The Plateau State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association on Sunday arrested a fake doctor for allegedly carrying out medical treatment leading to the reported death of a patient in the state.

The death of the patient said to be a woman in Angwa Rogo community in Jos North Local Government Area of the state, last week, after a surgery performed on her by the fake doctor in his hospital, was said to have sparked outrage among residents.

The development, it was further gathered, had attracted the attention of the Nigerian Medical Association and security agents who stormed the medical facility on Sunday and arrested the fake doctor.

The state Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr Bapigaan Audu, confirmed the development on Sunday in a statement he jointly signed with the Public Relations Officer of the association, Dr Istifanus  Bako.

The statement read, “In furtherance of its unwavering commitment to sanitise the private health space in Plateau State, the Nigeria Medical Association in partnership with the State Security Services and the Inspectorate Unit of the State Ministry of Health, today, May 3, 2022, sealed a private health facility operating under the name of Al Ihsan Nursing Home in Anguwan Rogo, Jos North LGA over allegations of quackery, operating beyond its scope of registration as well as multiple cases of patient mismanagement one of which which led to the recent, unfortunate death of an elderly woman.

“Led by gallant operatives of the service, the NMA State Chairman as well as the Head of the Medical Inspectorate Unit of the SMOH stormed the facility in the early hours of the day leading to the sealing of the facility.

The impostor has since been arrested while investigations are ongoing”

The statement appealed to citizens to patronize only legitimate health facilities in the state.

It also called on proprietors of private health establishments to ensure that they recruit only genuine doctors and other hospital staff

It added, “The association will continue to explore all legal means to check the de-marketing and bastardisation of the title of Doctor; and shall remain alive to its responsibility of assisting the government in delivering effective and efficient health care system for the overall benefit of all citizens”

It was reported that the NMA had in March 2024 arrested a fake doctor for allegedly carrying out medical treatment in schools and worship centres in the state.
