No ransom paid for kidnapped Nasarawa LG chairman – Police

The Nasarawa State Police Command, on Wednesday, said no ransom was paid for the release of the abducted chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, Safiyanu Andaha,  on Tuesday.

The state Police  Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in an interview with PUNCH Online.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that sources informed our correspondent that gunmen abducted him alongside one other male, Adamu Umar on New Year’s Day at Ningo village along Andaha-Akwanga Road.

PUNCH Online had also reported the release of the abducted chairman.

While responding to a text if truly a ransom was paid, the PPRO said, “No ransom was paid. The victim and the person the abductors contacted confirmed to us that no dime was paid.

“They were released at about 8.40pm (Tuesday) due to sustained pressure mounted on them by our operatives deployed on their trail.”

PUNCH Online also reported that the PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, had mobilised personnel to go after the hoodlums and rescue the chairman and one other person who were kidnapped.
