The Edo State Government Secretariat has been shut down following the strike action embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The closure of the secretariat was supervised by the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Edo State Council, Odion Olaye to ensure that members comply with the directives to begin the strike today.
Olaye stated that he had sent members to schools, airports, petrol stations, and the Nigeria Petroleum Development Corporation to ensure that they were shut.
He said, “We are complying with the strike action fully. I have sent people out to different institutions to ensure compliance. If they come back with feedback, I will have more to say about the strike.”
However, an official in Benin Airport said the plane had landed and taken off from the airport on Tuesday. Travellers were also seen making their way into the airport to catch flights to different destinations.
Banks along Akpapava, Mission roads, forestry and other areas were also shut down with customers trying to get money from a few Automated Teller Machines that dispensed cash.
Public schools in the Government Reserved Area were also shut as students were seen loitering around their schools.
Also, a security officer at NPDC said the staff were complying with the strike with only essential workers allowed on the premises.
