Culture central to Nigeria’s unity, says Ewuare

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has hailed the Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, for his tireless efforts towards marketing and promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

The monarch, who spoke at his palace in Benin, the Edo State capital, endorsed the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) scheduled to hold in the ancient city from October 19 to 26.

He noted that culture is central to Nigeria’s unity and peace.

Oba Ewuare expressed delight that this year’s NAFEST will coincide with his fourth year anniversary on the throne, adding that it would be used as a platform for marking the anniversary.

The oba assured the people that the palace would work with NCAC to make NAFEST 2019 a huge success.

He added that Runsewe’s passion for the development and preservation of Nigeria’s culture needed everybody’s support and encouragement.

Oba Ewuare expressed appreciation to the NCAC chief for giving Edo State the hosting right and for the festival and for enlisting the collaboration of the palace to host the event.

“Words are not enough to express my appreciation; I am simply overwhelmed,” he said.

Runsewe saidhe was in the palace to brief Oba Ewuare about the festival and obtain his royal blessing.
