Flags lowered in Access bank branches, as staff mourn Wigwe, family members’ death

The working environment around Access bank branches in Abia State was, on Monday, solemn, following the death of the Bank’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Habert Wigwe.

The bank staff were seen in groups mourning and discussing the tragic incident that led to Wigwe’s death in a Chopper crash last weekend.

Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba and their son, died in an aviation mishap in the United States of America.

Also, Abimbola Ogubanjo and two other pilots died in the Chopper crash.

The news of their death has already been confirmed by the management of Access Bank PLC and aviation authorities in the United States of America.

It was reported that in honour of the top banker and four other persons, Access Bank lowered its corporate flags in all its branches in Abia State.

A trip to different branches of the bank, including the Abia State government house location, Umuahia, Isi Gate and Library Avenue branches, showed that the flags were lowered to fly at half-mast.

Also, at the Timber Shed branch in Umuahia and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike branch at Ikwuano LGA, the flags of the bank were conspicuously lowered in honour of the plane crash victims.

The entire workforce at all the branches visited by our correspondent appeared at work in black mourning attires.

Some staff of the bank were seen lamenting the unfortunate death of Wigwe in hushed tones.

The bank workers were also discussing the future of the bank in a post-Wigwe era.

Meanwhile, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has mourned the death of Wigwe in the ill-fated aircraft, describing the incident as a big blow and one of the saddest moments in his life.
