Wife of the President, Dr. Aisha Buhari; Liberian Vice-President, Dr. Jewel Taylor; the National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Stella Okotete, governors and other dignitaries have said Nigeria’s future is dependent on actualising the potential of women.

They spoke yesterday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national women conference in Abuja.

Mrs. Buhari said the ruling party should double its efforts in promoting women.

The First Lady noted that ahead of the 2023 general election, the party needs to ensure that women occupy decision-making positions.

“Since 2015, I have had the privilege of engaging Nigerian women across the entire country.

“My conviction is that Nigeria’s future is entirely dependent on actualising the potential of our women. It is no mere coincidence that parties that have grown strong, prosperous and influential have prioritised eomen’s participation in nation-building.

“I, therefore, wish to call upon the APC to double its efforts in promoting women. This, I believe, will serve as one of the objectives of this conference.

“As Nigeria races towards another election, we must go beyond paying lip service to putting women in vital offices within our party and the government. We must put in place workable strategies to ensure that this actually happens. Charity begins at home.

“And so, the APC must start by ensuring that women occupying strategic offices within the party have the most strategic roles in government. When this happens, it will become a lot easier for us to empower the Nigerian women for the much needed leadership, politically and economically,” Mrs. Buhari said.

Okotete thanked the APC and its governors for empowering women in their various states.

The National Women Leader thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife for prioritising women’s concerns.

She assured the party that Nigerian women were ready for next year’s general election.

Okotete also assured the women of more inclusiveness, promising that the Digital Women Academy would serve as a veritable platform to empower them economically and politically.

Governors at the event included Dr. Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Alhaji Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi).
