NIMET alerts airline operators to poor visibility in eight northern states

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has released a public weather alert indicating poor visibility in eight northern states.

A statement by the agency’s Central Forecast Office and signed by its spokesman, Muntari Ibrahim, said the dust raised over Faya Largeau, a dust source region in Chad Republic, was expected to disperse towards Nigeria and trigger poor visibility in the North.

The statement said: “Cases of thick to moderate dust haze is expected over the extreme North.  Areas to be mostly affected include Yobe, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe and Borno, where horizontal visibilities should be around 1,000 million and below.”

NIMET also cautioned that flight operations may be disrupted, and it urged airline operators to pick up their flight folders and adhere to regulations, especially at aerodromes in the northern parts of the country.

Road users, NIMET said, are also advised to drive slowly and carefully due to poor visibility.
