Driver arrested with military items headed for Anambra

A driver has been taken into police custody in Ondo State after being intercepted with sundry military items on his way to Anambra State.

Tochukwu Obasi was arrested on November 12 in the Ore area of Ondo State with a sack of military accoutrements found in his Toyota Sienna vehicle in transit to Anambra.

Ten pairs of camouflage trousers, eight camouflage jackets, nine pairs of knee protectors and nine pairs of face caps were reportedly seen in the sack, police said.

At his parade alongside other suspects, Obasi claimed he got the sack from “a colleague” and was to deliver it in Anambra for a fee of N3500.

He said he was told that the sack contained military accoutrements and that some military personnel were aware of his mission to the Southeast state.

Other suspects paraded included one Festus James who allegedly raped a woman eight months pregnant.

Police said James went to Agbabu village in Odigbo local government and claimed to be a prophet and that the Holy Spirit directed him to hold a three-day deliverance programme there.

It was in the course of the programme that he allegedly raped the woman.

He said an evil spirit that entered into him.

Also paraded was one Lawal Taiwo who falsely presented himself as a soldier at Okitipupa.

Police spokesperson  Fumilayo Odunlami said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
