US based mushroom organisation presents certificates to 154 mushroom farmers

A US-based mushroom farm, Mbeng Adio Mushroom Farms (MAMF) Global LCC has presented certificates to no fewer than 154 mushroom farmers trained on mushroom cultivation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that MAMF Global in conjunction with Grassroot Agricultural Cooperative Society earlier organised a week-long mushroom training programme to boost the production capacity of the farmers and enhance their economic power.

Speaking with NAN on Wednesday, after the event in Abuja, Dr Kingsley Obasohan, MAMF chairman noted that certification would enable beneficiaries export their products and maximise profit.

Obasohan said one of the challenges of mushroom farmers in the country was lack of export opportunities.

He emphasised that by virtue of the training and certification, MAMF global would offtake mushrooms from the farmers and market overseas.

According to Obasohan, the next phase of the organisation’s project in Abuja is monitoring and evaluation of each of the farmers’ mushroom farms.

The chairman noted that the organisation had invested much in the country in terms of mushroom storage and drying before final offtaking abroad.

“Mushroom business is very productive and economically viable.

“We are starting the next phase which is the actual farming.

“We are supporting the farmers with our monitoring and evaluation team on ground to technically give the farmers the needed support during the farm stage.

“Financially we are making a lot of investment in terms of storage, we will make provision for a cooling system because we are taking mushrooms from the farmers and drying them.

“We have packaging and drying machine that we will use in drying every product before we export, so these are the huge investment put in place by our organization,’’ Obasohan said.

Similarly, Mr. Victor Olusan,  the President of Grassroot Agricultural Cooperative Society, said the certification would rid the mushroom subsector of the economy of fake practitioners.

Olusan who said that the certificate had an engrossed code of the MAMF global website emphasised that “it cannot be faked by anybody”. (NAN)
