He observed that the last three months had not been pleasant to the corps because motorists chose to travel in the night due to the daily enforcement of traffic laws by the FRSC across the country.

“All the fatal accidents we have been recording occurred between 1 a.m. and 4.30 a.m. and they are seriously alarming.

“The most recent is at Okene around 3 a.m. in which an articulated vehicle, carrying 50 people on top of its articles had an accident.

“However, what I am saying now is that accidents with heavy fatality occurs at night and l had already made representations to the federal government.

“We wake up each day and realized accidents have occurred around 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. mostly; and it is a worrisome dimensions.

“However, we have made appropriate recommendations for the government to give us the support required to tackle this”.

Speaking further on the workshop, Oyeyemi said that the corps had evolved over the years as a multi-sectoral agency that tackled road indiscipline.

He said that the corps had also leverage inter-agency cooperation, especially for staff training, saying that the workshop was a document product of prolonged interface of relevant agencies.

“Road Safety is multi-sectoral and now the federal government has assigned the role of each agency from the police, FRSC, Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and to the Federal Ministry of Works and Transportation as to what makes a road safety management for a country.

“We urge all our sister agencies to continue supporting us in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the country,’’ he said.

The Minister of State for Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mr. Clement Agba, said that there was an urgent need to strengthen the motoring and evaluation strategy to achieve the aim of Road Safety Strategy II.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Road Safety Strategy II (2021-2030) is the second edition of the action plan to strengthen road safety in the country. (NAN)
