‘Call for APC chairman’s resignation laughable’

The call by the factional All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State for National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole to resign is laughable, according to the faction loyal to the former governor.

Its Secretary, Lawrence Okah, said the was coming from members of the Obaseki/Shaibu Solidarity Movement (OSM) and not APC members.

According to him, Anselm Ojezua is the chairman of OSM and not APC.

“Col. David Imuse is the authentic chairman of the APC and recognised by the NWC.

“I said it is laughable because we have not seen where a tenant will ask the landlord to leave the house.”

They “are a bunch of confused men who have lost focus as to how a party is run.

“Eleven of 16 members of the state exco signed for Ojezua’s removal and he has been removed according to the constitution.”

Okah faulted Governor Godwin Obaseki’s claim that he secured more votes for the APC than Oshiomhole.

“I also saw Ojezua battling to defend Obaseki’s failure to win his ward for Mr President during the presidential election.

“It is funny they are bringing out figures of the general vote cast in the state rather than publishing what the governor scored in his unit and ward during the presidential election.

“It is even an acceptance of the failure for Obaseki to be comparing what the President scored in the state in 2015 and 2019.

“In 2015, Oshiomhole fought the then PDP-led government to garner those votes for Mr President in Edo State. He won his entire Edo North Senatorial District for Mr President.

“In 2019, under APC administration, Obaseki as governor lost his ward, polling unit and senatorial district. As we speak, he is led by PDP in his federal constituency, which is a shame.

“We urge our APC members to ignore comments from these OSM members because they have perfected plans to join the PDP.

“We will not allow them to destroy APC, which is part of their plot.”

But, Ojezua told our correspondent that he remains the APC state chairman.

Reacting to claims he was not the legitimate chairman of Edo APC, he described the pro-Oshiomhole faction as a bunch of lawless people.

He said there was a restraining order against them which they have failed to obey, adding that, he was in court to prove they were lawless.

Ojezua added: “That is in their dream. They are a bunch of lawless people and I am in court to prove that. I have a court order restraining them, but they have refused to obey.

“I challenge them to say where they operate from. If he (Col. Imuse) says he is Edo APC chairman, he should operate from Edo State and should organise a world press conference as I have done.”
